I love these chunky “hug mugs” as Liz calls them, they really are like a hug in a mug! I drink a lot of coffee and there’s just something special about a handcrafted mug that feels good to warm your hands around, especially when it gets a bit chillier! Her beautiful shades of green are unique and they are my favourite colours – there are 2 glazes available, paler greens or a darker bluey/green with an oatmeal stripe along the bottom.
Each piece is thrown on the pottery wheel in her lovely field-based studio in Bristol using a blend of clays and glazed in stages to achieve the layered result. Liz applies a matte grey over her turquoise glaze to create the beautiful paler greens and for the darker mugs, she half dips each one in her jade green glaze and then dips the whole exterior in a matte white. Each mug is totally unique in each firing depending on the thickness and position in the kiln.
Liz’s ceramics are made to be very tactile, with gentle curves to fit your hands. Everything is fired to 1260c, making it more durable and dishwasher/microwave proof. If not in stock, these mugs can be made to order within 4 weeks.
