I love these beautiful tactile coffee cups. I commissioned these designs from Jenny, a local Bristol potter who produces small batch, individual items in her Bristol workshop. I met her at Tobacco Factory Market and knew her designs would capture the coastal feel I had in my head for this spring. These remind me of the colours of rocks and pebbles on the beach, with an orangey sand-like line between the greys. In bright sunlight, these greys shine more like ocean blues.
Jenny uses such tactile earthy iron rich clay which is dug from the ground in St Agnes, Cornwall , the same clay is used by the Leach Pottery St Ives. She then uses 5 or 6 different glazes in combination, with strips of clay left unglazed to create the beautiful burnt orange accent. The result is something really special and something you just want to wrap both hands around.
