Nicola’s large ceramic garden mushrooms have been one of the bestselling things in my collection and one of my favourites. For this autumn 2022, I asked her if she could make me some smaller hanging ones to complement the hanging acorns and oak leaves she made me last autumn. I love these small hanging ceramic mushrooms and they make perfect tree decorations or you can hang them on indoor decorative branches. They are made from high fired stoneware ceramic with an iron oxide finish which makes them suitable for inside or outside! Each one is attached to a loop of natural twine to make them easy to hang.
These mushrooms are made from stoneware clay and decorated with an oxide. Each piece of clay is rolled and shaped by hand, making each one utterly unique. Nicola works from photographs of fungi and recreates the details in the clay; each twist of the stalk and tear of the top, clay is the perfect material to use to sculpt these pieces. She adds her own personal touch to each one too. The inspiration for these mushrooms came from always being fascinated by seeing wild ones everywhere whilst out walking. All of Nicola’s work is inspired by her love of walking and exploring and the gems that nature gives to us.
