I did a willow weaving course with Sarah Jayne a few years ago and I was looking this autumn for a lovely large veg gathering or log basket in autumnal willow colours. I asked her if she would make me one and she agreed, and I’m so so happy with the result. I love this beautiful large willow basket so much. It has a lovely long handle and loads of room for harvesting veg or for storing logs in front of the fire.
The baskets are made from willow grown on the Somerset levels. Sarah used a mix of Old French (grey brown), Steamed Black Maul (dark brown), Flanders Red (red) and Dicky Meadows (grey green) willow to create the different colours. They all have different soaking and preparation times, ranging from 4 days to 10 days of soaking fully submerged, then at least 24 hours to mellow before weaving. Once the willow is dry it is treated with a food safe walnut oil to nourish and protect it.
The colours of these baskets are so beautifully autumnal and you can see the craftsmanship and love in every one. I hope you love these as much as I do. As each one is handmade, your basket may vary slightly from the one in the photo. If not in stock, the average make time is 2-3 weeks.
