I discovered Sophie and her lovely company Betony & Sage through nature inspired Instagram posts and she feels like a real kindred spirit. I love the fact that she takes inspiration for her scents from nature and memories of time spent outside and how it makes her feel. And I love her ethos of using only the most natural organic ingredients too and putting the environment first. She uses UK grown rapeseed wax that she blends herself, locally sourced organic essential oils and natural wood or organic hemp wicks to ensure that her candles are the most eco-friendly they can be. The three fragrances of hers I have chosen to stock are the most amazing smelling candles I have found and they make your room smell so good when they burn too. This Wilderness candle is wonderfully earthy and woody. Sophie describes it as “capturing moments in wilderness: the awe, grounding and inspiration you get from being underneath the trees. With aromas to ground you and slow you down, to help you feel more connected with yourself and with nature”. The essential oils used are:
– Cedarwood to relieve nervous tension and anxiety
– Frankincense to calm, relieve tiredness and slow the breath
– Clary sage to encourage optimism
Each candle is topped with wild sourced Douglas fir pine needles, blue cotton flower petals and juniper berries and features a natural wood wick that crackles as it burns.
To get the most from your candle, allow it to burn for a couple of hours when first lit so that the botanicals are engulfed in the wax and do not burn. To achieve the longest burn time, when you first light your candle allow the wax to melt from rim to rim. Thereafter don’t burn for more than 3 hours at a time. Keep wick trimmed to roughly 1 cm above wax, keep wick straight, upright and centred to the jar. Do not allow the wax to burn to the very bottom of the jar as the botanicals will catch.
Size: 120ml, burn time: 35+ hours
