These Two Hands is looking for a part-time shop assistant to join the team. If you are interested in working in my Brislington store in BS4, please read about the role below.
I am looking for someone who loves nature and handmade designs. Someone who will offer a warm welcome and excellent customer service to everyone that visits the shop. The role requires a good knowledge of all the shop stock to make sure customers are given help and ideas when choosing gifts and that the whole shopping experience runs smoothly. I am looking for someone who works well in a team but can also think independently, be proactive and bring fresh ideas to the business. You will also have a passion for independent businesses and craftsmanship.
This is a weekend position so would suit someone looking to work every weekend. It could be split into 2 roles if you are only able to work one of the 2 days, but ideally I’m looking for someone who can cover both. Other staff members have tended to be creatives who want extra income alongside their art, but anyone who has a love of art, design and craft will also enjoy the role. The hours may include some ad hoc weekdays and possibly additional hours in the school holidays if available.
The role:
- Opening and closing the shop
- Excellent customer service skills and engaging with customers in a friendly and enthusiastic way
- Smooth running of all transactions in the shop
- Unpacking stock deliveries and organising stock storage
- Replenishing stock and keeping the shop looking tidy
- Ensuring the security of stock and cash
- Helping to create shop displays
- Packing and posting online orders
- Gift wrapping and gift box stamping
- Some other admin and marketing tasks
Who I’m looking for
Someone who:
- Can confidently help all customers in a polite and friendly manner
- Is comfortable approaching customers that need help and able to talk knowledgeably about the designs and makers in the shop
- Is able to remain calm under pressure and deal with any problems that may arise
- Is able to communicate well with customers and makers
- Feels comfortable manning the shop by themselves – full training will be given
- Retail experience preferred but not essential
- You must be permitted to work in the UK
Hours & Salary
Hours: 10-5 on Saturdays and 11-4 on Sundays
Possibly some other ad hoc weekday shifts. On average12 hours per week.
Pay: Living wage – £10ph up to age 21/ £12.60ph over 21
You will also be entitled to a 10% staff discount on everything in the shop
About These Two Hands
My shop is a curated collection of handcrafted, nature-inspired gifts and homewares made from natural, sustainable materials by over 65 female makers across the UK. The shop is located on Sandy Park Road in Brislington, BS4. The shop sells art, cards, gifts, books, homewares, skincare, candles and more and everything is handmade by small independent artists and makers, many of whom are very local. You can also shop online and at UK events and markets and I send out orders all over the UK.
